Machu Picchu Tickets 2026: Circuits, Prices & How to Buy

If you’re searching for Machu Picchu tickets 2026, there are two ways to sort it out: buy the entrance on the official platform yourself, or book a tour that already includes it. Turismo Liberty’s Machu Picchu Full Day costs from $380 per adult and covers the entrance ticket, the round-trip tourist train, the buses up to the citadel and a certified guide. If you already have a date, message us on WhatsApp +51 959 175 901 and we’ll confirm availability in under 5 minutes.

If you’d rather build the trip yourself, this guide gives you what you need: prices by route, which circuit to pick, the named-ticket rules reported in September 2026, how to pay and the mistakes that cost travelers their entry. At the end we compare both options with real numbers so you can decide with confidence.

💰 Machu Picchu entrance prices in 2026

These are the amounts for foreign visitors according to the 2026 guides we checked. The Ministry of Culture can update them and sources don’t fully agree, so confirm the final amount on tuboleto.cultura.pe before paying.

⚠️ Watch the dollar figures: some websites list US-dollar prices that differ widely from each other. The official price is set in soles; convert at the day’s exchange rate and always verify on the Ministry of Culture platform.

🗺️ Machu Picchu circuits and routes: which one to choose

Since June 2024 tickets are sold by circuit and route, and you can’t mix itineraries: rangers can remove you if you leave the route printed on your ticket. Routes 1-C, 1-D, 3-C and 3-D are only available in high season.

CircuitWhat you walkBest for
Circuit 1 — PanoramicUpper terrace, Intipunku, Inca Bridge and Machu Picchu Mountain (1-A)Wide photos of the citadel and a long hike
Circuit 2 — ClassicDesigned route (2-A) and lower terrace (2-B)First visit: the main temples and plazas
Circuit 3 — RoyaltyDesigned route (3-B), Huayna Picchu (3-A), Great Cavern (3-C) and Huchuy Picchu (3-D)Fit travelers who want to climb

The Huayna Picchu climb has around 350 spots per day and mountain routes allow no delay: the second checkpoint is usually an hour after entry. On a first trip Circuit 2 is the safe bet; for a full walkthrough of what you’ll see, read our guide to Machu Picchu for first-time visitors (in Spanish).

📋 New September 2026 rules: the named ticket

In mid-September 2026, Peruvian and Chilean media reported that the Ministry of Culture amended the visitor regulations for Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail network. These are the changes that appear in those reports:

  • Named ticket: the purchase is tied to your ID and is valid only for the registered date, time, circuit, route and holder.
  • No date or name changes. The passport number can be corrected once, for an obvious clerical error.
  • No refunds as a general rule: an unused ticket loses validity, except in properly documented force majeure.
  • Official channel: TuBoleto or points authorized by the Cusco Regional Culture Office; resale through unofficial channels is prohibited.
  • Agencies: must be registered with the Cusco Regional Culture Office, and on the Inca Trail network they must register tourists, guides and support staff on the platform.
  • Original ID: you must show it at entry together with your ticket; students also carry proof of student status.
⚠️ What is still unclear: the reports we reviewed mention an adaptation period of up to 10 days and a 30-day “grace period,” but don’t publish the exact effective date or new prices. Until then, treat your ticket as non-changeable and confirm current conditions on the official platform.

🛒 How to buy your Machu Picchu ticket, step by step

  • Set your date and circuit. Decide the day, your train time and whether you’ll do a standard or mountain route. Mountain routes sell out first.
  • Go to tuboleto.cultura.pe and choose ticket type, date, circuit, route and time slot. The platform is in Spanish.
  • Enter each visitor’s details exactly as on their passport: name and document number. Uploading a photo of the document is optional but speeds things up.
  • Pay online. September reports say the full amount must be paid at purchase. Expect a card fee of at least 3%.
  • Download the digital ticket and carry it with your original ID; both must match at the checkpoint.
  • Align your train and hotel with the ticket time. If you arrive outside your entry window, you don’t get in.

If the process feels long or your date is already full, the Machu Picchu Full Day solves it in a single booking. To combine ticket and train on your own, compare operators in our guide to the Machu Picchu train: PeruRail vs Inca Rail, and if you’re still deciding how to get there, see how to reach Machu Picchu from Cusco.

⚖️ Buying on your own vs booking the tour with the ticket included

A separate ticket makes sense if you plan to stay in Aguas Calientes. For a single-day visit from Cusco, the tour removes the risk of mismatching train and entry. If you’ll spend several days in the city, the Cusco tourist ticket also covers the valley sites.

🗓️ When to buy: high season, regular season and daily caps

PeriodDaily capWhat to expect
June 19 to November 25,600 visitorsHigh season: popular routes sell out weeks ahead
November 3 to June 184,500 visitorsRegular season: more availability, but rain from November to March
January 1, April 2–5, December 30–315,600 visitorsHolidays with expanded caps and high demand

The Aguas Calientes office holds around 1,000 tickets a day for in-person sales, but they go quickly and are sold for the next day. For weather planning, read when to visit Machu Picchu.

🎒 What to bring and what you can’t take into Machu Picchu

  • Original passport — it must match the ID used to buy your ticket.
  • Digital ticket downloaded or printed.
  • Comfortable, non-slip shoes for uneven terrain.
  • Rain jacket or poncho and light layered clothing.
  • Small backpack and coca candies or leaves for the altitude.
  • Cash in soles — restrooms next to the entrance cost about S/2.

Food, drinks, umbrellas, tripods, large selfie sticks, strollers, pets and drones are prohibited. There are no services along the route: restrooms are only near the entrance.

❓ Frequently asked questions: Machu Picchu tickets 2026

How much are Machu Picchu tickets in 2026?

For a foreign adult, standard routes cost S/152 (roughly US$40 to US$43 depending on the exchange rate) and mountain routes, such as Machu Picchu Mountain, Huayna Picchu and the Great Cavern, S/200. Students pay S/77 and S/125, and visitors under 18 pay S/70 and S/118. Peruvians and Andean Community residents pay S/64 and S/112. Cards can add a fee of at least 3%. These figures come from 2026 guides and can change, so confirm the amount on tuboleto.cultura.pe. On the Machu Picchu Full Day tour (from $380) the ticket is already included.

Where can I buy official Machu Picchu tickets?

The official channel is the Ministry of Culture’s TuBoleto platform (tuboleto.cultura.pe) and points authorized by the Cusco Regional Culture Office, such as the Centro Cultural Machu Picchu Pueblo office in Aguas Calientes, open 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. According to September 2026 reports, resale through unofficial channels is prohibited. You can also buy through a registered agency. To pay online you choose date, circuit, route and time slot, and enter each visitor’s name and document number. If you book the Machu Picchu Full Day with Turismo Liberty, we handle the ticket for you.

Which Machu Picchu circuit should I choose?

For a first visit, Circuit 2 (Classic) is the most complete: it covers the designed route and the lower terrace. Circuit 1 (Panoramic) adds the upper terrace and viewpoints, and mountain routes demand more fitness. Circuit 3 (Royalty) includes Huayna Picchu, the Great Cavern and Huchuy Picchu, with limited spots and no time tolerance on mountain routes. 2026 guides note that routes 1-B, 2-B and 3-A often sell out weeks ahead. With a basic ticket you can’t switch circuits during your visit: you only walk the route printed on your entrance.

Can I change the date or name on a Machu Picchu ticket?

No. Under the Ministry of Culture’s new rules reported in September 2026, the ticket is named and valid only for the registered date, time, circuit, route and holder. Date and name can’t be changed; the passport number can be corrected once for an obvious clerical error. An unused ticket loses its validity and, as a general rule, can’t be rescheduled or refunded, except in properly documented force majeure. Before paying, confirm your dates, the exact name on your passport and your train times.

How far in advance should I buy Machu Picchu tickets?

In high season (June 19 to November 2) the daily cap is 5,600 visitors and the most popular routes sell out weeks ahead: buy as soon as your date is set. In regular season (November 3 to June 18) the cap drops to 4,500 per day and there’s more room, although holidays and Holy Week also fill up. For a mountain route like Huayna Picchu, with about 350 daily spots, book even earlier. With Turismo Liberty you can check availability on WhatsApp before committing to anything.

How much is the Machu Picchu Full Day tour, what does it include and where does it depart from?

Turismo Liberty’s Machu Picchu Full Day costs from $380 per adult and departs from Cusco: hotel pickup in the historic center is between 3:50 and 4:00 AM. It includes pickup, round-trip tourist train, buses up and down to the citadel, the entrance ticket, a certified guide, tourist transport and ongoing assistance. Breakfast and lunch are not included. Groups are capped at 18, the level is moderate and an original passport is mandatory. The tour ends near Cusco’s Plaza de Armas.

The essentials are these: a Machu Picchu ticket is named, has a fixed time and can’t be changed, so decide carefully before paying. If you’d rather skip the paperwork, Turismo Liberty offers the Machu Picchu Full Day from $380 per adult, with ticket, train, buses and guide in a single booking. For anyone looking for Machu Picchu tickets 2026 with everything coordinated, it’s the simplest way to reach the citadel from Cusco.
