07:00 a.m. We will start picking you up from your hotels and from the main square to go to the pier of Puno for the lake excursion to the floating islands. From the pier of Puno to the floating islands of the Uros there is a distance of 25 minutes by tourist boat.
The floating islands of the Uros are a set of artificial living surfaces made of totora reeds, an aquatic plant that grows on the surface of Lake Titicaca. The islands rise above a portion of Lake Titicaca's surface, overlain by blocks of totora roots on which successive layers of woven or interwoven totora mats are laid. Its inhabitants, the Uros, are an ancestral people currently concentrated in the Collao plateau and in Peru on the floating islands located in the bay of Puno.
Their subsistence is based on the ancestral culture linked to the lake, based on the multiple uses given to the totora reeds that sprout from the bottom and fishing, more than 2562 years ago.

The island of Taquile was part of the Inca Empire, and you can see some archaeological remains. This island was one of the last Inca sites that capitulated to the Spanish in the 16th century. It was later taken on behalf of Emperor Charles V and finally passed to the court of Pedro Gonzales de Taquila, from whose surname it derives its name. The Spaniards prohibited the traditional Inca dress, so the islanders had to adopt the peasant dress that they still wear today.
