We start very early our trip to the Colca Valley to make the most of the day. The journey will take us through unique high Andean landscapes while the sun rises over the mountain range.
🗻 05:30 AM – Volcanoes Viewpoint (4,910 masl)
We arrive at the highest point of the route, from where we can observe majestic volcanoes such as Sabancaya (active), Ampato, Hualca Hualca, Misti and Chachani. Ideal for panoramic photographs of the Andean altiplano.
🍽️ 07:00 AM – Breakfast in Chivay
We pause in the picturesque village of Chivay to enjoy a hot and comforting breakfast. Perfect to recharge your batteries before continuing the adventure.
🦅 08:30 AM – Cruz del Cóndor Viewpoint
One of the most awaited moments of the trip. From this famous viewpoint, we will contemplate the depth of the Colca Canyon and, with luck, the impressive flight of the Andean condor in its natural habitat.
🌾 09:30 AM – Viewpoints of pre-Inca andeneria
Along the way we make stops to observe the impressive pre-Inca terraces built by the Collagua culture. These agricultural terraces are still in use and are part of the cultural landscape of the Colca.
🏘️ 11:00 AM – Visit to the district of Maca
We will visit the charming village of Maca, famous for its colonial baroque church and its square. Here we can also taste the traditional Colca Sour, a typical drink made with Andean fruits such as sancayo, and buy local handicrafts.
🤝 12:30 PM – Experience in Achoma
We will be welcomed by a local family in the village of Achoma, where we will live an authentic experience:
- We will participate in agricultural activities such as planting or harvesting, depending on the season.
- We will be able to wear traditional costumes and learn about their cultural significance.
- We will be part of a demonstration of the Wititi, a traditional dance declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
🍲 14:00 PM – Traditional lunch with valley view
We enjoy a homemade lunch prepared with fresh local products, accompanied by a privileged view of the agricultural terraces of the Colca. A perfect opportunity to continue sharing with the host family.
💧 15:30 PM – Relaxation at the Chacapi hot springs (Yanque)
After lunch, we head to the Chacapi hot springs to relax. Surrounded by nature, these medicinal waters offer a revitalizing rest at an ideal temperature.
🐪 16:30 PM – Stop at Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve
On the way back, we make a stop to observe vicuñas in their natural habitat. These South American camelids are a symbol of the Andean fauna. We will also take pictures of the altiplano and its wildlife.
