Itinerary
🕖 07:00 am – Departure from Arequipa
We begin this exciting adventure with pickup from your hotel in Arequipa. Get ready for a journey filled with Andean landscapes, living culture, and unique experiences as part of an authentic Colca experiential tourism program.
🦙 09:30 am – Vicuñas Viewpoint
On the way, we stop at the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where you can observe elegant vicuñas roaming freely while enjoying the fresh high-Andean air.
🍃 10:00 am – Patahuasi Stop and Coca Tea
We arrive in Patahuasi, where we enjoy a comforting cup of coca tea. This natural drink helps with altitude acclimatization, allowing you to continue the journey more comfortably.
🌿 11:00 am – Tocrapampa Wetlands
Next, we explore the Tocrapampa wetlands, a high-Andean ecosystem rich in birdlife and native vegetation. A unique landscape that invites you to connect with nature.
⛰️ 11:30 am – Patapampa Viewpoint (4,900 m.a.s.l.)
We reach the highest point of the route: Patapampa. From here, you can admire impressive volcanoes and learn about the apachetas, small stone cairns placed by travelers as offerings and symbols of protection.
🏡 01:00 pm – Welcome in Coporaque and Local Lunch
We arrive in the village of Coporaque, where our host family warmly welcomes us at the Casa Vivencial. We enjoy a traditional lunch prepared with local ingredients in a cozy and family atmosphere—one of the most authentic experiences of the Colca experiential tourism program.
🌾 02:30 pm – Experiential Activities with the Community
Following lunch, we start the experiential activities. You may take part in seasonal agricultural tasks such as planting or harvesting, and learn how to milk cows and feed domestic animals—all guided by the local host family.
♨️ 04:30 pm – Relaxation at the Hot Springs
Later, unwind with a relaxing bath in the nearby hot springs. This peaceful moment, surrounded by mountains, is perfect for restoring your energy.
🍽️ 06:30 pm – Traditional Dinner with the Host Family
In the evening, we share a homemade dinner prepared with ingredients from the valley. It’s a wonderful opportunity to talk, exchange stories, and learn more about the local culture.
🔥🎶 07:30 pm – Cultural Evening in Coporaque
Enjoy a special evening with traditional dances, live Andean music, traditional costumes, and a demonstration of local weaving. The experience is complemented by a bonfire that adds a magical atmosphere to the night.
🛏️ Overnight – Stay at the Experiential House
We then rest in a cozy room within the Casa Vivencial, where you’ll feel the genuine warmth of an Andean home, with everything needed for a peaceful night—ending a memorable day in the heart of the Colca experiential tourism experience.
🗓️Chimpa Fortress and Farewell to Colca
The day begins at 6:30 am with a traditional breakfast at the Casa Vivencial. Prepared with fresh local products from the valley, this homemade meal provides the energy needed for a new day full of culture and landscapes.
At 7:10 am, we begin our journey toward the northern side of the valley. This second day continues our experiential Colca program, blending nature, history, and authentic local life.
⛪ 08:00 am – Colonial Church of Lari
We visit the district of Lari, home to one of the most beautiful colonial churches in the Colca Valley. Its baroque architecture and peaceful rural setting make it a must-see stop.
🥾 08:30 am – Hike to Chimpa Fortress
From this point, we begin the hike to Chimpa Fortress. The trail, which takes approximately one and a half hours, crosses Andean landscapes and offers spectacular views of the canyon. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the ancestral history of this archaeological site, once an important defensive zone for pre-Inca cultures.
⬇️ 10:30 am – Descent and Visit to Madrigal
After enjoying the views from above, we begin the descent toward the village of Madrigal. At 11:00 am, we arrive at its main square, where you’ll learn more about its history, traditions, and local life.
🍽️ 12:30 pm – Lunch in Chivay
We continue to the town of Chivay, where a buffet lunch featuring typical regional dishes awaits. A great opportunity to taste the traditional flavors of the Colca Valley.
🚌 1:30 pm – Return to Arequipa
After lunch, we begin the journey back to Arequipa, bringing this unforgettable Colca experiential journey to a close, filled with authentic memories and a genuine connection to Andean culture.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Colca Valley is located from the city of Arequipa; in a trip of 03 hours approx. you will arrive to the town of Chivay which is the capital of the province of Caylloma, where you will be able to find all the main services such as lodging, restaurants, night entertainment centers and others.
It is advisable to carry cash since not all establishments offer this service.
In the Colca Valley the weather varies seasonally, it is recommended to bring a warm jacket for the morning and evening as the cold increases; and in the day we can use light clothing; you should also wear sneakers for short hikes, hat or cap, sunscreen and sunglasses. If you plan to visit between December and March it is advisable to bring waterproof clothing since it is the rainy season.
