We will pick you up from your hotel in downtown Arequipa at 07:30 am.
We will visit the Plaza de Yarabamba on our way to the sanctuary of the virgin of Chapi.
The Plaza de Yarabamba, also known as Plaza de Armas de Yarabamba, is the heart of the Yarabamba district in Arequipa, Peru. This picturesque public space is surrounded by traditional architecture, including houses built in the early 20th century, and features a central fountain that adds a touch of serenity to the atmosphere.
In the square, visitors can appreciate the architecture of the houses, most of them built at the beginning of the last century; its winding and sloping cobblestone streets. In addition, there is the ‘Tanccana’ or fulling mill and its stone hand, where the people of the town, in the past, ground the grains of corn, wheat, barley and the famous germinated corn (guiñapo), for the no less famous ‘chicha’. It also highlights the mill of the place, called “Molino Rodríguez”, with a classic semicircular vault, built on the base of ashlar, dating from 1820.
The plaza is a meeting point for the community and an ideal place to relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. In addition, it is common for cultural events and traditional festivities to be held in this space, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
